Been AWOL for a while!

It has been a while since I have posted so thought I would give a little update.

Lucas and I are just back from visiting my dad in Kent which was lovely! Lucas only sees his granda a few times a year but that doesn't get in the way of the special bond and relationship that they have, they are like two peas in a pod when they are together!

I was a little nervous about flying with the little man as we hadn't done it in a year and he was a little easier contained at that point! I shouldn't have been nervous he travelled really well and was super excited about flying.

Some things that made our journey easier were:

  • Snacks and drink - if all else fails feed him and he's happy
  • Colouring books and pencils
  • Small toys
  • Favourite cuddly toy
  • Storybooks
  • Trunki to carry everything in - we borrowed this from a friend and I will definitely be purchasing one for our next trip.  It was extremely useful when walking through Gatwick airport as Lucas got tired so he was able to sit on it and be pulled along.  He got many admiring looks and a few comments such as 'I wish I had an adult one of those!'

Lucas had a real adventure, he visited Thomas Land, baked with his auntie, went to the park with Granda and mummy had a lovely rest.

Dinosaur Train Review

As a mummy of a 2 year old I spend a lot of time watching the same programmes over and over because my little man loves them so much so the chance to review a new programme was a welcome change.

Dinosaur Train from Nickelodeon is a new animation from the creator of Hey Arnold is aimed at 3-6 year olds.  The programme is based around the main character, a young dinosaur called Buddy, his siblings, parents and Conductor Troodon, the Dinosaur Trains conductor.  Children can relate to Buddy, his questioning of the world and his drive to discover answers.

Dinosaurs meant it was an instant hit with my 2 year old son, armed with his own toy dinosaurs Elvis and Buddy he sat glued to both episodes.  Although he is younger than the age range the programme is aimed at the colourful prehistoric backdrop and friendly looking dinosaurs attracted his full attention.

As a mother and trained primary school teacher I was most delighted by the fact that the programme hones in on a pre-schoolers natural curiosity for the world around them and teaches them in an entertaining way how to apply scientific thinking and reasoning.

All in all Dinosaur Train was a hit with both son and mummy.  A great programme that encourages children's learning without them really noticing.

Catch Dinosaur Train each weekday at 4pm on Nick Jr.

I received a goodie bag and a 2 episode dvd to review the programme.

Meet the new arrivals

As mummy to Lucas (2) and step-mummy to Madison (4) for a long time I have wondered when the best time to introduce a pet to the house would be.  My own home as a child always had a pet of some sort in it so it's something that I wanted for our own children.

My other half and I decided that a dog at this stage would be a no no because of the amount of attention they require, my other half also vetoed a cat (much to my annoyance).  Cats are independent, the perfect pet in my eyes at this stage in our family life but no a cat wasnt' to be part of our family (just yet, shhhhh).  After much discussion we decided a small pet would be the best, so I got onto the computer and started my research.  I am so glad I took the time to research our options because I was quite surprised by the results.  We had initially thought of a hamster as we had both owned them in the past but with factors such as them being nocturnal and their habit of nipping if held too long we felt the kids weren't ready for one.  It appeared from my research that the best pet for small children are guinea pigs!

So let me introduce to you Gruffles and Hiccup!

Gruffles and Hiccup have settled into the household well and the children are really understanding of their needs.  Gruffles (the dark one) is definitely the boss and loves his grub esp red pepper.  Hiccup is a little more nervous but is slowly coming round to us and loves cuddles (once you can catch him)!  The piggies (as Lucas calls them) have been a great addition to our home but we didn't take the decision lightly and I highly recommend researching before heading to the pet shop.  We could have been sitting with a hamster that the kids couldn't see because it would only be out when they went to bed!

Justin Fletcher Album Review

There were certainly plenty of 'Hands Up' in the air when this album landed on our doorstep.

Like many parents there is only so much you can take when it comes to kids music so I was a little worried when Justin's album arrived at the door as my little munchkin adores him so I knew I would have to listen to it on repeat.  However, Justin's album 'Hands Up' has surprised me, instead of wanting to throw the CD player out of the window I find myself dancing along with my son especially to Hands Up which has a dance music type vibe to it.

As well as his new song Justin has included all of the old faithfuls such as 'The Wheels on the Bus' and 'Old MacDonald.'  Old faithfuls but with a twist as the music has been changed to go side by side with the type of music out today.  Justin also encourages the child to participate by talking to them through some of the songs.  My son loves this and shouts 'Justin talking me.'  His little face shines as if Justin is in the room talking to him and only him.  I just wish this album had been released before his birthday party in January as it is the perfect CD for a kids party.

Overall I think this is a fabulous children's album and I would highly recommend it to all parents out there and it is a must have for little (and big) Justin Fletcher fans everywhere.

Justin Fletcher Hands Up.... The Album is available to buy from the 5th March 2012.

This is a sponsored post, I received a copy of the album in order to write this review.
